I LOVED this episode. I've been saying for years that our profession will not be taken seriously if we don't dress and act as professionals. For some the judgment of teacher dress is apparent, for others it's subconscious but it's there. Thank you for taking time to address this issue.
I love your podcast but this one really resonated with me. I believe that how we dress says a lot about how we feel about our job. I teach art and ruin a lot of clothes. However when I show up dressed well and the kids notice. They comment on the care and craft I take with my art and I generally feel better when I look good. However, there’s no way I could pull off heals ever, I’m always wearing my flats. I’ve had a lot of discussions with my students about this too. How you prepare and look really can influence your day.
Also, I’d love to hear a discussion about Ferris Bueller. There’s so many ways that you could go with that movie but what about have a discussion regarding the utter boredom many kids feel in and with school and how they will seek innovation with or without you.
